Social and Cultural Awareness
In March 2007, we embarked on projects working with young people in our community. This development was prompted by the enthusiasm and initiative of the youths keen to raise their social and cultural awareness. Workshops are manned by professionals concentrating on the following projects:
Cooking projects to encourage the development of healthier lifestyles.
Drama projects to demonstrate and highlight the plight of the underprivileged in Nigeria.
Creative arts programmes such as tie and die and batik are introductory ideas to possible future professions.
The young people are continually encouraged to initiate ideas that would improve their social skills and enhance their personal development. They are currently, amongst other projects, in the process of recording a song and CD about the plight of underprivileged children in Nigeria with the intention of raising funds to donate to this cause.
Fundraising
In July 2007, the association had a fundraising event where the young people showcased the above projects. It was a resounding success and this gave the young people the confidence to embark on new and challenging projects.
The association is constantly focusing on ideas and plans to achieve our aims, thereby making a difference in the lives of many who are marginalised by society.
